The focus of this course is to introduce the student to the 10 Knowledge Areas, 5 Process Groups, and all related Inputs, Processes and Outputs of A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, (PMBOK® Guide) – Fifth Edition and in so doing, prepare the student for the Project Management Institute’s (PMI®) Certification Exams – either the Project Management Professional (PMP)® exam or the Certified Associate In Project Management (CAPM)® exam. The course is delivered using a number of unique and value-added tools and techniques, which ensure students' preparedness to take the above-mentioned exams. Learning Objectives

At the end of the 5 day PMP/CAPM Exam Preparation Program, students will be able to identify and explain the 5 Process Groups and 10 Knowledge Areas that make up the Project Management Body Of Knowledge (PMBOK) 5th Edition .

Students will furthermore be better prepared to consider taking their Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) exam.

Successful completion of the course will enable students to:

  • Build knowledge preparation in the 10 Knowledge Areas, and related tools and techniques, of the PMBOK Guide
  • Build knowledge preparation in the 5 Process Groups, and sub-processes, of the PMBOK Guide
  • Understand the differences between a portfolio, program, project, and business as usual
  • Understand the typical roles of a project manager and the different types of organisational structures that they may apply project management within
  • Break down your revision into manageable achievable chunks
  • Prepare for all aspects of the 4-hour PMP or 3-hour CAPM exam
  • Complete the required PMI verification process

Prerequisites

This course has no prerequisites, however the following would be an advantage:

  • Previous or current experience of working within a project environment
  • Some previous project management training and development

Syllabus

5 Process Groups:

  • Initiating Process Group - covers those processes performed to define a new project or a new phase of an existing project by obtaining authorisation to start the project or phase
  • Planning Process Group - covers those processes performed to establish the total scope of the effort, define and refine the objectives, and develop the course of action required to attain those objectives
  • Executing Process Group - covers those processes performed to complete the work defined in the project management plan to satisfy project objectives
  • Monitoring and Controlling Process Group - covers those processes required to track, review and regulate the progress and the performance of the project, identify any areas in which changes to the plan are required, and initiate the corresponding changes
  • Closing Process Group - covers those processes performed to finalise all activities across all Project Management Process Groups to formally close the project or phase

10 Knowledge Areas:

  • Project Scope Management - covers and includes the processes required to ensure that the project includes all the work required, and only the work required, to complete the project successfully
  • Project Time Management - covers and includes the processes required to manage timely completion of a project
  • Project Cost Management - covers and includes the processes involved in estimating, budgeting and controlling costs so that the project can be completed within the approved budget
  • Project Quality Management - covers and includes the processes and activities of the performing organisation that determine quality policies, objectives, and responsibilities so that the project will satisfy the needs for which it was undertaken
  • Project Risk Management - covers and includes the processes concerned with risk management planning, identification, analysis, responses, and monitoring and control on a project
  • Project Procurement Management - covers and includes the processes to purchase or acquire the products, services, or results needed from outside the project team to perform the work
  • Project Human Resource Management - covers and includes the processes that organise and manage the project team
  • Project Communications Management - covers and includes the processes required to ensure timely and appropriate generation, collection, distribution, storage, retrieval and ultimate disposition of project information
  • Project Stakeholder Management - covers and includes the processes to identify people, groups, or organisations that could impacted or be impacted by the project
  • Project Integration Management - covers and includes the processes and activities needed to identify, define, combine, unify and coordinate the various processes and project management activities within the Project Management Process Group
