For those who don't know the NDC series of developer events, NDC has become well known globally for its quality of speakers, content, networking and overall value.
I had the pleasure of meeting the two key figures behind NDC; Jakob Bradford (@jakbradf) and Kjersti Sandberg (@KjerstiSandberg) during last year's DDD Brisbane conference. It's hard not to warm to Jakob and Kjersti and you often need to look hard to find genuine operators who really care and are willing to do stuff differently. I am thrilled to be partnering with them.
Why did Gooroo get involved?
Jakob, Kjersti and their team share many of the same values we do about community and supporting personal growth. Considering this is the first time the event is being held in Sydney (August 1-5), we wanted to put our support behind the event to make sure it comes back to Australia next year. Also, rarely do we get the opportunity to immerse physically in the community and learn ourselves... can't wait.
Why you should attend
NDC is focused on developers, period. It's not your typical developer event - it's over 5 days (2 days of workshops + 3 days conference), however you can pick and choose what you're interested in and how many days you head along to. We have always been very impressed with the quality of the speakers they've attracted and this event is no different. It's also at the Hilton in Sydney, so you can be assured the catering is up to scratch too!
I get the fact that it's expensive and it's hard to justify to your boss (or partner!). However, when I look at the value proposition it's pretty clear; direct access to leading experts in your field coupled with a volume, quality and currency of content that you can self-regulate to your interests/passions. If you're also looking to make a career step, these types of events round out your knowledge and expose you to stuff you wouldn't normally see at your workplace.
So I hope you get a along. If you do, come and see us for a chat - we'll be in the main hall.
