Xamarin has now officially offered its SDKs for Android, iOS and Mac as open-sourced projects.Xamarin and Microsoft already announed their open source plans at the Build 2016 conference.

Today, Xamarin released a new features in Xamarin for Visual Studio that provide a seamless experience for mobile development. Xamarin also launched new site open.xamarin.com.

According to Xamarin:

"As with any open source project, there are many ways to contribute. We've described several options for participating in the Xamarin SDK open source project, from major contributions to those taking as little as a few minutes of your time."

"The future of native cross-platform mobile development is now in the hands of every developer, and we’re excited to see where you’ll take the platform. Go to open.xamarin.com to get involved."

iOS Simulator Remoting

iOS Simulator remoting enables multi-touch interactions on Windows machines with touch capable screens, so you can interact with your app just as a user would by tapping, pinching, or swiping your touchscreen display.

iOS USB Remoting

Xamarin previewed support for iOS USB remoting which makes it possible to deploy and debug apps from Visual Studio to an iOS device plugged into your Windows PC. Simply connect your device to a Windows 10 machine via USB, select the device to deploy to, and debug your app on an iOS device without ever having to leave Windows.

Xamarin Studio 6 Release Candidate

Xamarin Studio’s type system has been been completely rewritten from the ground up to be based on Roslyn, Microsoft’s open source .NET compiler platform. Xamarin Studio has been redesigned and updated style with 5,727 new icons, and a beautiful dark theme.

Xamarin.iOS & Xamarin.Android

Xamarin.iOS and Xamarin.Android introduce new native HTTP handlers, bringing speedier network operations to your mobile apps.

Workbooks

A beautiful concept by Xamarin which I really loved about creating Interactive Workbooks. Xamarin Workbooks are live documents that are great for experimenting, teaching, training, or exploring mobile development with C#. See an app come to life as you move step-by-step through an interactive coding workbook.

You can get started with live, interactive coding, download workbooks and get started with samples.

Development with Xamarin.Forms

Xamarin demonstrated more features coming to Xamarin.Forms to make mobile app developers even more productive. Some of them are:

  • Themes
  • DataPages
  • Xamarin.Forms Previewer
  • URL Navigation
  • Embedded Platform-Specific Controls in Xamarin.Forms

Automate Faster with Xamarin Test Recorder

Xamarin announced the preview release of Xamarin Test Recorder. The Xamarin Test Recorder reduces the effort and the time it takes to create automated UI tests that can be submitted to Xamarin Test Cloud.
